The Industrial Association of Paraguayan Garment Makers granted recognition to Canal Guapa for its contribution to the visibility of national talent in the Paraguayan fashion industry.

Clipping: Canal Guapa recognized at the 2018 La Aguja Awards

The Industrial Association of Paraguayan Garment Makers (AICP) granted Canal Guapa a special recognition during the fifth edition of the 2018 La Aguja Awards, held on December 5, 2018.

The diploma certifies the recognition «for its contribution to the visibility of national talent on the occasion of the 2018 La Aguja Awards».

Canal Guapa was the only fashion-specialized TV outlet operating in Paraguay during that period, broadcasting on cable channel 21. The award honors the channel’s editorial work in giving visibility to designers, brands, and the Paraguayan textile industry at a key moment of growth for the sector.

The La Aguja Awards, organized annually by AICP since 2014, recognize the best brands, designers, companies, and media that contribute to the development of the national fashion industry. The 2018 edition awarded company performance during 2017.

Notes on the recognition

Award context

AICP, founded in 1951, is one of the oldest trade associations in Paraguay. The La Aguja Awards have consolidated as the main recognition of the Paraguayan textile and fashion sector, evaluating criteria such as innovation, service quality, visual impact, social-media management, and contribution to the visibility of the national industry.

In the 2018 edition, alongside competitive categories (best national brand, retail experience, top exporter), AICP granted special recognitions to media for their support of the sector. Canal Guapa was distinguished in this category along with the digital outlet ella.com.py.

Editorial relevance

Canal Guapa operated as a thematic cable channel between 2017 and 2019, producing original content on Paraguayan fashion, lifestyle, and design. The recognition validates the channel’s editorial strategy: making local talent visible in an industry that historically lacked specialized media platforms.

This award adds to the editorial coverage that Canal Guapa received in November 2017 from Diario 5 Días, where journalist David Chamorro highlighted the channel’s bet on national fashion content.

Connection with the projects

The recognition documents the reception that Canal Guapa had within Paraguay’s fashion ecosystem during its active period. Even though the channel stopped operating in 2019, its editorial archive remains a reference of the moment when the Paraguayan textile industry began to structure itself more formally, with backing from institutions such as AICP.
